Love Changes Everything
A few months ago, I posted a song called "Love Changes Everything" in the blog. That was significant, both at the time and now, as love has changed everything. Her name is JanaRae, and we have been going out for roughly five weeks now. Whereas the feelings at the time of the first writing were one of a sense of being brought into a worldview change (an emerging new look at the world through love eyes) that opened up a possibility of a romantic relationship - that is to say that there was a budding romantic relationship, but it was happening in the context of a much greater eye opening and love changing everything kind of experience - now there is a truly loving relationship that seems to emanate out into all the rest. The first was an eye opening that was already happening when the love interest came along and the relationship started. Now, the process works the reverse way, and the relationship brings out the new worldview all the more.
Love brings down one's inhibitions. Not all of them, and you still hang on to the things that make you distinctively you. You still check things at the metaphorical door. But you certainly let down your inhibitions about so many things, and there is a general effect on all of one's inhibitions, so it seems. You find yourself talking to strangers whereas previously you had hadn't, you speak more about the world in metaphorical terms (struggling to find the appropriate image like a poet), you sit for long stretches and daydream. It changes how you view and act in relationships. You value them more. You are purer, more sensitive, you feel more, you love more. You're supercharged with energy. It's a wonderful and amazing process.
It seems that you can take that knowledge into the next season of your life. Because part of it is a temporary relaxing of barriers. Cathexis, a word that refers to the falling in love process, is the temporary relaxing of one's barriers to let another person in that happens in love. But you eventually go back to a restoring of at least part of those boundaries. But hopefully you can hold on to that reality and wonder of doing those things and realize that while that particular period where it was so effortless is gone, the energy can still be given to undertake the same processes of seeing the world through refined eyes. You previously viewed the world through all kinds of prejudices. Now you can see, based on your experiences, that you don't have to view the world the same way. You don't have to go back to the same person you always were.
The love relationship is just so amazing. It is so wonderful to discover all those ways in which you love one another. JanaRae's and my first date was to Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was amazing to see this person able to enthusiastically enjoy the play in the same manner that I did. That was a very clear indication early on of what kind of fun we were going to have together. I was like, "Wow. Here is someone who has just as much fun doing this as I do. We're going to have a great time together!" And then being able to see in the relationship just how much you enjoy the way a person does something. You tell them about it: "I love the way you . . . " As we talk about in our relationship, there are "face cracking smiles" all around :) It is also really amazing to find yourself loving in ways you never dreamed possible. You ask yourself, "How am I doing this?!"
So there is much joy and excitement for the future in this relationship.
