Proverbs

A friend of mine threw out an idea several months ago to read a Proverb on the day of the month that it is. Today's proverb was about Wisdom. It is always about wisdom, but this particular one personifies Wisdom (as a woman - read the significance in that . . Wisdom in the guise of a man just wouldn't be as wise; it'd look a bit more foolhardy. However, let it also be said that Folly too is personified as a woman . .). It's pretty funny to visualize some of the things about this lady. One section talks about Wisdom sitting above the city gates "where the paths meet", calling aloud for the simple and those lacking understanding to come in. The amusing thing there, besides the thought of a bunch of fools scurrying around below, is that wisdom is calling out for you to offer you something, saying "I will deliver for you." It is interesting to note that what Wisdom promises in this proverb is almost exactly the language saying what God provides. Not how we tend to think of life. Wisdom is raising her voice, it is being heard; it's just a question of whether we acknowledge it or not. She is looking for you. Our lives are always talking to us, we're hearing wisdom's voice. It is just the question of whether we perceive the voice as a friend and trust it.
