Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving, I headed down to my grandmother's house in Maryville in the morning to begin our family celebration. I got there around 10:00 and begin helping out in the kitchen. Everything was already laid out. All the dishes of stuffing and sweet potatoes and casserole. It was just a matter of coordinating the times into the oven, getting the glaze on the ham, and watching the Macy's Day Parade. As it turned out, it seemed like everyone had been watching the parade. They had an accident, and the M&M's balloon got caught on a traffic light and knocked some things off.

The next program on was Miracle on 34th Street, and it felt like deja vu, because it kept showing pictures of Macy's or the street with the parade. I have never watched the movie. I was able to pick up some of it from watching; we had the sound turned off, and I would just catch glimpses. I was trying to think of the actress's name; it just came to me now: Natalie Wood.

After lunch, my uncle and dad went out and started clearing out my granddad's shed. He passed away earlier this fall. My granddad had an abundance of tools, as he did a lot of jobs for people over the years, had worked at Lowe's, and loved working with his hands. My granddad took all these scrap items or items used for one thing, and would turn them into tools. One time, he went to the Perkin's restaurants and asked for buckets. They gave him about 50 empty buckets used for icing, so he had those around and you would still find them years later. He would drill a hole in the handle of each tool so he could hang them all up. At one point, he had all these tools in the back of his van, which had a very large tool chest in it. After that, they moved into his shed which he built. The funniest thing he did was that someone had given him a bunch of walking canes or sticks that had curved handles, and he (having no use for the canes themselves) sawed off the handles and used them to hang up tools. By the end of the day, we had all the miscellaneous stuff out, headed to either the dump or to my uncle's house.

All in all, it was a good day with family, and we are looking forward to Christmas.
