Smithsonian American Indian Museum

In a previous post, I referenced the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. Here are some pics . .

The outside is supposed to suggest the windswept cliffs of some of the desert dwellers of the Indian people. The inside, as you can see, is MASSIVE. Indians offered their knowledge in designing the museum; it is distinctively their material, their words. The statue above is interesting. It is of George Washington, an Indian man, and an Indian woman. It was created to honor an agreement made between Washington and an Iroquois (?) tribe. It is very ironic in that much that was promised was never fulfilled by the white man. The "Our Lives" board describes where all Native Americans are represented in society today.
